The San Jose Barracuda (2-1) won their second straight contest on Saturday night with a 4-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors (1-2). The first star of the game, Michael Haley powered the ‘Cuda past the Condors with two goals, as he now leads the team with four goals on the season, which is also good enough for second in the league.
Haley opened up the scoring at 6:16 of the first period. Ryan Carpenter picked up the assist, as he threw it towards the net where Haley was able to tip it past Eetu Laurikainen. Bakersfield ended up outshooting the Barracuda to end the first 13-7 but Aaron Dell stood strong giving San Jose the 1-0 lead going into the intermission.
San Jose added to their lead at the 2:30 mark of the second. Bryan Lerg notched his second of the season on a beauty of a backhand to gain the 2-0 lead. Trevor Parkes and Chris Crane each were awarded the assist on the goal. They finished with two points each.
Bakersfield started their comeback just past the halfway point of the second period, scoring three unanswered goals in the span of ten minutes. Matthew Ford scored two for the Condors, with his second one being a controversial one that was reviewed by the officials. The goal on the ice stood at 3:53 of the third period to give Bakersfield the 3-2 lead.
San Jose started their comeback with just under 12 minutes to go in the contest. Trevor Parkes picked up his first of the season from Joakim Ryan and Chris Crane to tie things up at three. Haley scored the game winner for the ‘Cuda with 3:29 to go in the contest. Carpenter was awarded his second helper of the night.
Aaron Dell stood strong finishing the night with 30 saves on 33 shots for his second straight victory. He also had the play of the game with this beauty:
San Jose returns to SAP Center on Wednesday for the first of two straight against the San Diego Gulls (2-0).
