In the Oakland Raiders’ first preseason game they looked very strong as they edged out the Cowboys 19-17 in a very exciting, down-to-the-wire game. The Raiders defense forced multiple turnovers, including a blocked field goal, a muffed punt, and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Rookie seventh round pick, wide receiver Brice Butler, had a great night with two amazing catches, one for 40 yards, and a thirty yard touchdown grab as well. He showed off his speed and hands today, and he will be a great addition to the Raiders this season and in the future. Oakland’s clear cut number two running back had nine carries for 39 yards, and he looked to be very sharp in the game. Kicker Sebastian Janikowski also hit a 51 yard field goal, showing his strength and accuracy.
The Raiders were losing the game 10-6 by the half, then went up 10-9 after safety Usama Young’s interception and back up kicker Eddy Carmona’s 42 yard field goal. The Raiders went up 16-10 on the touchdown to Brice Butler. However, the Cowboys led a strong drive that ended in a run for a touchdown bringing them up 17-16. Finally, after a bad three and out drive, Raiders linebacker Eric Harper would pick up a muffed punt from the Cowboys to regain possession. Eddy Carmona hit another field goal to put the Raiders up 19-17 with 1:41 to go. The Raiders stopped the Cowboys on their final drive and took the win after. Overall, this was a great game for the Raiders, and a great preview into this coming season.
